Sleeper Coaches in A/C buses

I’ve always dreaded the thought of travelling in buses while it involves a travel of more than 4 hours. I try somehow to avoid the bus travel and adopt any other means or if possible, avoid the travel itself. I can cite enough incidents that made me uncomfortable while travelling in bus. The travel to Kodaikkanal in my childhood days, the travel from Thriupathi to Chennai, the travel from Hyderabad to Chennai, etc.. In all these occasions, I vomited and that led to me synonymizing bus travel with nightmare.

So now, when I had to travel to Hyderabad and had to reach there by 15th, there was no other go than to get a bus since the train tickets were all sold by the time I got the news that I should travel. And that was when I found out that there were these buses with sleeper coaches or sleeper beds where you can lie down and sleep as you come in trains. The next thing that I normally do is of course search that in google images. The images tTrhat I saw satisfied me.

Now, the day came and I boarded the bus near Chennai Central. I normally enjoy privacy and I expected the beds to one below the other with two in a cabin-like format. But it was not so. It looked like a train cube with 4 beds and smaller spaces between them. Nevertheless, it was just comfortable. One thing that you cannot do is that, you cannot bird-watch outside if you are allotted the lower berth. The upper berth gives you a comfortable view of the outside if you lie down. So until you get down, you are almost devoid of the outside world.

Another luxury that they have added here is a small LCD TV for every passenger which he can turn it on or off as per his wish. But I was only lucky enough to watch a Telugu film. I was more expecting the lights to be on so that I could read my favorite books but one of the men-in-charge replied in the negative since some passenger hurt himself due to the melting of plastic from the light that injured his forehead. I was getting prepared for the turbulence that is gonna be caused when the bus goes through the badly laid roads but even that seemed manageable. All the more, it was a good travel in the Sleeper coach A/C bus. One would wonder given all these luxuries, how much would be the cost for a night’s travel from Chennai to Hyderabad. Yes, it is surely on the higher side as it costs around Rs.1100. There are a couple more travels offering you sleeper coaches.

So, provided I continue to travel only in sleeper coach-A/C buses, gone are the days that I dreaded the bus travel and fought hard enough to avoid the same.

Katradhu Tamil and the IT industry

Today, I saw a (Tamil) movie named 'Katradhu Tamil'. A well-scripted story and a decent screenplay made it a watchable film. It portrays the low options of employability for people who specialize in non-IT courses since the opportunities in those fields are meager in world's market. The film also explains the beautiful love between this poor guy and his lady love. The guy gets frustrated at the treatment that he receives after people come to know that he is Tamil teacher and at the same time he melts whenever he thinks or meets or hears of his girl.

The concept that the director has thought of presenting before the audience is 'In the current market, its hard for those who do not know computers, to lead a healthy life. But he didn't clearly suggest a way or method to eradicate such a situation. So is this just venting out the anger, jealousy and frustration that the common man has on the software professionals ? I am not saying this since I am in the same field. I just couldn't find a solution in his question. The hero commits murders after murders due to the frustration and anger he has on the society. These murders are also not reasonable. Finally the hero and the heroine, when they have no other go, commit suicide.

Coming to the point that the director says, we cant completely omit that what he says is wrong. There is some truth is his case. IT industry has increased the compensation of the normal human being and in turn has resulted in the hike of restaurant and hotel rates, land rates, vehicles, rents for houses and hostels, etc. This has really caused a concern for the average human being. And its not healthy too. As somebody said, the money that a software professional earns doesnt go to his pocket actually. It goes to the pockets of Mobile manufacturers, land brokers, building constructors, hotel owners, etc. This is definitely not a healthy sign.

The most recent disturbance that the IT industry has caused is the substantial increase in the road traffic. Two years ago, Chennai didnt see these many cars as that can be seen today. You apply a simple car loan and get yourself a car which you may or may not know to drive. This is much evident from the fact that car manufacturers have started releasing cars with more and more cheaper rates.

Is the boom in IT a boon or bane ? Many of us have numerous reasons to justify that it is definitely a boon but when you take in consideration the lower class or the below-poverty line people, you dont have much arguments to justify the case.

My attraction towards philosophical books.

Yesterday, I was there in this Book fair. I like philosophical books a lot. The Isha Yoga has attracted me a lot in recent times. For people who are not aware, Isha Yoga is practised and taught by a non-profit organisation called 'Isha Foundation' led by Sathguru Jaggi Vasudev.

I bought some books from their stall in the Book Fair and still in dilemma to buy two more similar books. When talking of philosophy and spirituality, the reason I am being attracted towards them is as follows:

In this fast-moving wordly life, every human being ultimately lives for himself/herself. Everybody lives with a purpose and works in achieving the same. Whatever you encounter, happiness or sorrow, its the mind that decides whether the situation you are encountering is sad or happy. For instance, when you get a good job in a decent organization, you feel very happy about it and when something goes against you, you feel sad and angry. Now on the back of these events, who or what decides that you should be happy or sad or angry or anything for that matter ? Its your mind. Its the inner self ruled by your mind that determines your current state.

And when your have a control over your mind or inner self, think of the life that you will lead. Every day, every single minute, every single second is ruled by your thought. And this thought has a process too. When you get to know and control this process and when you go beyond this, you almost get to know the truth. The ultimate search for the purpose of life. But again, a notable point here is that this doesnt happen to you overnight. It takes a lot of effort. Constant effort. This effort, unlike other efforts in life does not consist of struggle. For something to achieve in life, you generally struggle and work hard to achieve it; you learn things only when you work hard. But while you work in realizing your inner self, you never really suffer. Rather you enjoy while learning and change your life in the process.

So why dont we give it a try, after all ?
